Mar 10, 2026: Book Debut with Fr. Pat Hannon, C.S.C. at Dundon-Berchtold Hall

Fr. Pat Hannon, C.S.C., debuts his new book, an incisive and ruminative From Glory to Glory: A Pilgrim’s Notes From the Badlands of Grace. Occasioned by the author’s walking, with siblings, the famous Camino de Santiago in the fall of 2024, the book traces all manner of other pilgrimages—to and from home, family, love, self, and God. Each page shines with the craft and vision of a spiritual essayist who has lived the insights he has arrived at over more than three decades as a teacher, writer, preacher, and pilgrim. At once a meditation on the Christian tradition regarding pilgrimage as well as a reaching out to the broader cultural understanding of that word, Hannon’s book—which includes a foreword by acclaimed essayist and biographer Michael N. McGregor—offers nourishment for all those seeking wisdom for their own journeys.

Bio - Fr. Pat Hannon, CSC, is a senior instructor in the English department at the University of Portland. A graduate of the University of Portland (’82), he bleeds Purple and White! Previous to From Glory to Glory, Fr. Hannon has had seven collections of essays published, more recently, Such Dizzy Natural Happiness: A Long, Loving Look at the Lord’s Prayer (Chicago: ACTA Publications).

Copies of the book will be on sale at the event, which includes a book signing.

The University of Portland Jazz Festival showcases outstanding student musicians, guest artists, and clinicians from around the country, all contributing to a vibrant celebration of jazz performance and education on our campus. Since its inception, the UP Jazz Festival has become a premier student jazz event in the Pacific Northwest. We support a mission of excellent teaching and individual attention in an environment that fosters development of the whole person, and our goal is to ensure that every participant leaves the festival inspired, with a greater appreciation for the art of jazz.

The UP Jazz Festival features a one-day, non-competitive, educational format for high school and middle school bands, with "Outstanding Soloist" awards given to students from each visiting band. We present the feature performance with our guest artist and the UP Jazz Ensemble, as well as our guest artist's master class, during the day, in order to ensure availability for visiting student groups who cannot attend an evening concert.

The 2026 Jazz Festival will feature performances by student ensembles, a clinic for each participating student group, a master class with this year’s guest artist, trumpeter Victor Garcia, a concert featuring the UP Jazz Ensemble with Mr. Garcia, and an evening jam session with UP faculty and students.

Schedules will be updated here, and we look forward to seeing you on The Bluff!

Following our inaugural conference's resounding success with participants from 19 Catholic institutions, we return with deeper insights and practical tools as AI reshapes education at inhuman speed. Since our first gathering in October of 2024, AI has fundamentally transformed academic landscapes—from research methodologies to student services, from classroom instruction to campus operations.
